Two weeks have passed since we last spoke, and it has been the most productive two weeks for me in recent months, in terms of software development! You may have already noticed some changes reflected in production, and there are a lot more incoming as well!
With the previous release that introduced a bug, I am trying to be more cautious with backward compatibility and rigorously test with projects that were created in the past. But expect to see a lot more awesome changes coming into production in a week!
Introducing the New Slider for Number Input
One of the first changes since our last product feature roundup is to number inputs. We’ve now equipped our number input fields with a slider! Here’s my consideration when making the slider for number input:
Real-Time Feedback: As you adjust the slider, you’ll see the changes reflected in real-time, offering immediate visual feedback on your adjustments.
Efficient History Saving: Changes made via the slider are not saved as new history states for Undo / Redo until you’ve finished your sliding adjustment. This means that while you can see the changes as they happen, we only save a history state once the sliding has stopped, which saves space for more histories.
This enhancement, though small, significantly improves the overall user experience, making interactions with Typogram smoother and easier. It’s now available, try it and experience the difference!
Invisible but Impactful: Legacy Project Upgrade
We’ve implemented an invisible yet crucial quality-of-life improvement: cleaning up legacy project data and upgrading it to the latest version automatically. This background enhancement ensures smoother updates and backward compatibility going forward.
A Revamped Font Menu: All Fonts, All Access
One of the more visible and substantial future updates is to our font menu.
Curated Collections & Brand Personalities: You’ll still find a small, curated collection of fonts based on your chosen brand personalities in the ‘Recent’ tab, making it easy to stay consistent with your brand’s aesthetic.
All Fonts Tab with Search Capability: Explore our expansive font library in the brand new ‘All Fonts’ tab. This feature comes with a search capability, allowing you to quickly find whatever your heart desires.
Font Preview: A “Variable-Fonts-First” Approach
Font Preview: We’ve introduced font previews, enabling you to easily scout a font’s visual appearance before making a selection, making font selection more intuitive.
Variable Font Showcase: Unique to our platform, we’ve taken a “variable-fonts-first” approach in our font previews. For variable fonts, the preview showcases the range of its variations, making it easy to spot the variable font families in the menu and gauge its versability at a glance.
Font Gradient Feature
We’re contemplating a groundbreaking feature that leverages the versatility of variable fonts called Font Gradient. This feature is still under active development and testing, but it promises to unlock new creative possibilities by allowing seamless transitions between font weights or styles, adding a dynamic and engaging element to your text.
This revamped font menu is still a work in progress, but we’re excited to give you a sneak peek next week. So, please stay tuned and come back to experience it for yourself!
